| There's a new book out written by Jeffrey Stepakoff, a former TV writer. It exposes the inner workings of the writer's room, how to break in to the business, etc.
The title of the book is [i:9e9745ad2a]Billion-Dollar Kiss[/i:9e9745ad2a].
How does this relate to Dawson's, aside from the fact that Stepakoff was a writer on the show?
Well, the subtitle is [i:9e9745ad2a]The Kiss That Saved Dawson's Creek and Other Adventures in TV Writing[/i:9e9745ad2a]
That kiss is, of course, in season three, when Joey and Pacey kiss for the very first time. The show was struggling in the ratings and Greg Berlanti (who created and ran Everwood, ran Brothers & Sisters this season, and has two shows for next season) apparently came up with the idea to have them kiss, and that ended up saving the show, and it's now referred to as "the billion-dollar kiss" because it ended up making a lot of money.
Apparently the book goes into a little more detail about all this. I'm interested in writing, in general, so I'll be picking up the book, but it'll be an added bonus to read about where the P/J idea came from. |
