| [quote:fde267fa96].I would have loved to have seen that alternate ending...or read that wonderful script that KW wrote[/quote:fde267fa96]
Can we really trust the first instinct of a guy who was no longer involved with the show? KW just came in to do the finale. He admitted to not having seen all the eps since he left. So his first instinct would have been seriously flawed. It would have basically been based on events that happened while KW was part of the staff. Dawson and Joey were in a completely different place by that time.
How do you erase the intensity of emotion and love that was written about P/J to prop the perceived popular pairing? How do you explain away the fact that Joey never thinks about Dawson romantically after their soulmate nookie? How do you explain that Pacey knows her best and is closer to her than Dawson by the end of the show --- yet somehow she wants to run off to Hollywood with Dawson? IF KW wrote that ending it would have to be 4 hours long to make it believable.
I think this debate will stand the test of time.... |

I think this debate will stand the test of time....[/quote:2d332c29f5]Clear P/Jer revisionist history....but I'm used to it. Heck, I used to be one of you!:) Yes, KW did not keep up with the show when he left, but before he wrote the finale he reviewed the seasons he missed, precisely because he did not think he could just come in and write the finale without knowing what happened in the last 4 seasons. Also, he did not write the finale himself, it was co-written with a someone whom had been with the show during the time KW was gone. Also, when you consider that he created the show and wrote the first two seasons, I'd say his instincts would be right on. Part of what he meant to do with the finale is correct things he did not like about the seasons while he was gone.
As for how Joey felt about Pacey and Dawson during S6 Paul Stupin said himself that most of what they did during that season was to set-up the big choice in the series finale and that they relied too much on the triangle to drive the show. Joey has said several times that she would always love both Pacey and Dawson....and if you remember correctly she did not show any romantic feelings for either Pacey or Dawson during the finale episodes leading up to the series finale...but I think that was part of the point. Even though she may be with some other guy....even seriously involved and living the other guy it always comes back to Dawson and Pacey...hence the big choice in the finale....which originally went Dawson's way:)
But I must admit that in the end, I think that KW felt the same way as you. That since he had left the show, it shouldn't be his decision to make to determine how it should end, so ultimately he phoned Paul Stupin and let him make the final call. And the rest is history....
PS: I still believe that if PS wasn't bickering with JVDB at the time Dawson would end up with Joey...but thats just my opinion. |

I am so glad they were bickering then. That would have been a terrible ending. How could two people who were never able to make it work at any point in their lives, believably end up together? Sure it happens. But they would be headed straight to divorce court.
I think Joey loved both Dawson and Joey...but I feel she was only in love with one of them. Pacey. Joey's feelings for Dawson (IMHO) were part fantasy and part family. He meant the world to her and was a huge part of her life - she was in essence a part of her family. Pacey, although she has known him just as long as Dawson, is someone who is outside of that. Her feelings for Pacey developed completely on their own without any thought to history or familial dependence. |

Didn't KW say in the series finale DVD commentary that he still hadn't seen all of the episodes of the series? I'm not sure about now, but at the time he did the commentary (which was after he wrote the series finale, of course), he said to Stupin that he hadn't seen the entire series. I remember when they were watching the montage at the end, Kevin was questioning if he had even seen the episode with several scenes featured in the montage.

Really? I thought Stupin was a card-carrying P/Jer. So, it didn't matter whether he was bickering with Beek at the time because he preferred P/J over D/J.

Actually, when I consider that he created the show and wrote the two first seasons, I'd say his final choice was the right one. The show's main premise wasn't about two destined-to-be lovers, it was about two best friends. The core of the show was [i:5d9dc07c74]friendship[/i:5d9dc07c74], not so much romance. Romance was just a highlight of the show.
Also, taking the second season into context, I'd also say that Kevin's final choice was the best one. Season 2 was just the [i:5d9dc07c74]beginning[/i:5d9dc07c74] of the terribly unhealthy cycle that is the D/J romance, IMO. |
