| I think that the reason that she should have been with Dawson and not Pacey besides the usual of soulmates, the intense connection they share, etc. etc. etc. blah blah blah...is that when it came to it, with Dawson she had so much that she could have gotten if their friendship went to that level, and if for some reason it didn't work out, even more to loose, to the fact that it was too great a risk. Where with Pacey, it was a safe thing, that if it didn't work out, then of course she would be hurt, but its not like Pacey (and I'm setting myself up to be slaughtered for this) was a huge intrical piece of her that without she was completely lost and not herself with. A conversation between her and Dawson during Goodbye Yellow Brickroad conveys this as well:

And I figured out this past year that it's hard for me...to talk about sex, to talk about...getting close to someone. And maybe...I'm not supposed to lose myself. Now it's not part of the plan. But then again, I never thought losing you was part of the plan, either.

That was at the end of the show, and then there was another conversation in season three, from Homecoming that I think shows just how much not only she has to gain and lose from not having him in her life but as they both have to lose. One of the most truly touching D/J moments, if not moments of the entire show.
[b:972e9cde7a]Joey[/b:972e9cde7a]: Yeah, it's weird, isn't it? It's kinda sad. So, we were friends...And then a couple...and then friends again...Then we were a couple. So...(sighs) so what are we now?

[b:972e9cde7a]Joey[/b:972e9cde7a]: You think every Joey has a Dawson, and every Dawson has a Joey?

| Allow me to clarify -
I have a best friend (male) who is my shoulder to cry on, confidant, etc. & I have known him since I was about 11yrs old. over half of my life. I love him without a doubt, but not in the romantic sense - like a [u:004b1ebc58]brother[/u:004b1ebc58] if you will (i.e. what Joey's feelings for Dawson became). Now, the Love of my life possesses the qualities mentioned about, added with passion, desire & romance. This is no way indicates being shallow or only interested in sex, just shows the difference in relationships. Plan & simple - a relationship without Passion isn't really a relationship at all. I know there a million & one other factors that make a relationship work, but you can't leave that one out. Just can't!
As far as Joey picking Pacey because he was exciting that maybe part of it, but he also challenged her, and made her feel the way Dawson never could. He was only forbidden during the beginning of there relationship, this was not the case during the finale, so that has no baring on her choice. Just like I have stated before, but you may need me to refresh your memory, so yet again I add - Joey stated during the finale in the hospital to Jen that she ALWAYS knew who she was suppossed to be with, which was later revealed to be Pacey. Her feelings for him never fizzled out even after all those years, hence her final choice. The feelings for Dawson just weren't there, not in the romantic sense. Get it now?! :wink: |
