Episode 6 A Deposit To Remember Part 2 (Scene: Outside the bank) Doug’s cruiser pulls to a stop, lights flashing, and following closely is Jack’s convertible. Doug turns and stops them) Pacey: Doug, I think Joey’s in there. Doug: What? Are you sure? Pacey: No, but she left for the bank just before you got to the restaurant. Doug: Now you guys, just stay out of the way. We’ll handle this. Especially you, Pacey. I get that you’re worried. If she’s in there, we’ll get them out safe. You have my word. (He turns and runs to the closest car which is being used as a temporary command post.) Dawson: Pace, are you alright? Pacey: Surely they’re not in there anymore. They’ve had time to get back to the Icehouse. Jack: I’ll call Ray. Pacey: Thanks, Jack. This just can’t be happening. And now of all times. She doesn’t need all this stress let alone the obvious danger. Dawson: What do you mean the stress? Is there something you aren’t telling us? Pacey: It’s just............I think she may be pregnant, Dawson. Dawson: (Shocked and briefly something like disappointment shows then he smiles) That’s great, Pacey....Isn’t it? When did you find out? Pacey: (Distractedly while watching the bank) Oh, uh, I don’t know for sure. I found this early pregnancy test. I don’t know for sure but it would sure explain........(from inside the bank){ “You people need to move away or I’m going to have to start hurting people.”}) Pacey: Oh, dear God. (Scene: Lobby of bank.) Joey: Maybe that’s why I thought of the mugger. He’s familiar. I think maybe I do know him. Mindy: Who, Jo? Joey: I don’t know, but I’m going to find out. (She stands and walks) (Scene: Outside bank. Doug approaches the waiting friends huddled together across the street.) Dawson: Pacey, while I don’t doubt you could find a way into the bank, it would be really stupid. Doug: What? Did I hear you right? If I catch as much as a hint that you’re going to do something to involve yourself in this, Pacey, I will lock you up so fast your head will spin. Pacey: Alright, alright. Doug: I came over to tell you, we think we know who that is in there. Jack: Who, Doug? Doug: Old Mr. Phelps, over there, was sitting in the window of the coffee shop and saw Cobie Dillard put a mask on and go it the bank about 3 to 4 minutes before my cars arrived on the scene. Pacey: Cobie Dillard? Dawson: Should I know a Cobie Dillard? Jack: You remember, Dawson. He’s just a local nitwit now, but he moved here in 10th grade from Idaho. Pacey: Geeky guy, brown hair, about 5'11" with bad skin...........had a big crush on Jo. Dawson: Oh, now I remember. So what’s his story, Doug? Doug: Lost his house to the bank about a month ago. There’s talk around that he’s about to lose his truck too. Pacey: So is this guy dangerous, or what? Doug: We know he has a gun, Pace. That makes him dangerous. (Scene: Bank Lobby. Joey walks quietly but unthreateningly towards robber. He turns and sees her, but barely reacts) Robber: So you know? Joey: (lying) I know. Why are you doing this? Robber: Why else. I need the money. They took my house and are about to get my truck. (Quietly) Joey. Go sit down. Please. You know I don’t want you to get hurt. Joey: And I don’t want you to get hurt either. Robber: So why now? You didn’t seem to care if I got hurt in 11th grade? Joey: (hesitates trying to take time.........11th grade?.......boys in high school?............ boys who asked me out?..............and then it clicks) Cobie, I didn’t mean to hurt you. If I did, I’m sorry. You know my head was always in the clouds back then. Dawson, A.J., Pacey.......... It was a crazy time for me. How about now? How can I help? Cobie: Nothing you can do. I’m totally screwed. Joey: Let me think, okay? (Phone begins to ring) (Scene: Outside the Bank. Doug again speaks to the friends.) Doug: Colbert James Diller, otherwise known as Cobie. 26 years of age, unemployed and currently residing with his grandfather. Jack: State of mind? Doug: We don’t know. I’ve got an officer on his way to talk to the grandfather. We do have him on the phone and he seems rational. He’s not threatening anyone anyway. He seems to have calmed down considerably. (Pacey’s phone rings.) Pacey: Hello. Gretchen: Hi, Pace. I’ve been trying to reach, Joey. Have you seen her? Pacey: (Walks silently away from the guys) I guess that answers my question. Gretchen: What are you talking about, Pace? What question? Pacey: Gretchen, there’s a bank robbery in progress at Capeside National. We think Jo’s inside. Gretchen: Oh no, Pacey! Pacey: Mindy, too. The place is surrounded. Doug knows who the guy is. It seems under control, but I can’t help but worry. Gretchen: I know, Pacey. If I could wiggle my nose and be there, I would. Pacey: Did she tell you, Gretch? About the baby? Gretchen: The baby, Pacey? What are you talking about? Pacey: I guess not. I think Joey’s pregnant. I found an early pregnancy test. She didn’t tell me. What if................... Gretchen: (interrupts) Maybe there’s nothing to tell, Pacey. Have you stopped to consider that possibility? Pacey: No, I’ve just been bummed all morning because she hasn’t talked to me. Gretchen: It can be very personal for a woman, Pacey. If she is, she’ll tell you all in good time. If not, she’s probably too embarrassed to mention it. You were the first person she looked for the other time. She’ll tell you. Don’t worry. Pacey: What do you mean the other time? (Scene: Inside Bank lobby. Cobie stands next to a loan officer’s desk. Joey sits on the desk looking extremely calm and comfortable.) Joey: Cobie, the first thing you’ve got to do is let these people go. I’m going to show you why. Okay? Cobie: I can’t just let them go, Joey. Joey: Just give me a chance to show you. Cobie: Alright. Joey: (stands and speaks to patrons and employees of the bank) Can I have everyone’s attention? If you know who I am, please raise your hand. (A little over half raise their hand) Now, how many of you know who this is? (She points at the man in the mask and 90% of the people raise their hands.) Sir, (speaking to the bank manager) Who is this man, please? Bank Manager: It’s Cobie Diller. Joey: Cobie, honey. You’re sunk. You don’t have any chance of getting away. I’ll bet the police already know who you are. Cobie: (removing his mask) What can I do? Joey: (Smiles really big at Cobie) That’s much better. You turned out to be a good looking guy Cobie. Here, (pats the desk next to her) Come sit with me. (Cobie walks over and sits.) I think you can’t avoid trouble at this point. It’s a matter of how much trouble, you’re exposed to. Cobie: Right. Joey: If all these people were to agree that you were confused and didn’t really mean any harm, it might go a long way toward minimizing the damage. (Everyone starts to murmur as Cobie seems to think about this.) We need to let them go now. Cobie: (Starts to weep) Okay. (Joey warns silently, motioning everyone to leave silently and quickly. She puts one arm around Cobie and gives him a hug) Joey: It’s all going to work out, Cobie. I’m going to help. (Mindy hesitates and Joey’s eyes flash telling her to get out.) Now you know what we have to do? Cobie: What, Joey? Joey: You have to give me that gun.(Cobie sets the gun down on the desk between them and she picks it up.) Thanks, Cobie. Cobie: You’re welcome, Joey and Thank you.( Momentarily, Doug and other officers heads appear at the door and windows. Doug walks slowly with mouth standing wide open as he sees Joey Potter hugging the bank robber and holding a pistol in her free hand.) (Scene: Outside Bank, Joey sits on the hood of Jack’s car talking to Dawson and Pacey. Cobie is being led to the back of a police vehicle in handcuffs.) Joey:( Cobie is being led to the back of a police vehicle in handcuffs.) Bye Cobie. Good luck, I’ll see you soon. Pacey: Jo, what in the world were you thinking? You could’ve been killed.. Joey: Pacey, Cobie was always just a simple boy. He still is. When I realized who he was, I wasn’t even afraid anymore. Cobie Diller was never going to hurt me. (Mindy comes running up and hugs Joey) Mindy: You guys should’ve seen her. She was totally awesome. (Scene: Outside of the bank) Pacey: I’ve got to say, it’s the last time the two of you go to the bank together. Joey: Oh, no! Pacey: What is it, Jo. Are you okay? Joey: I left your deposit bag under a chair cushion in the bank. Pacey: With the money in it? Joey: No, I spent the money on beer on the way to the bank. Of course, the money’s in the bag, Pacey. Mindy: I’ll go get it. Jack: I don’t think you can, Mindy. The whole place is a crime scene: I’ll see if Doug can do something. Joey: Please do, Jack. Pacey can’t afford me as it is. (She winks) Pacey: (Wraps Joey into a full-body hug) I was so scared, Jo. Joey: Yeah, well now, you know how it feels to have you out in a hurricane. Mindy: Wow, I think maybe you two do have some stories left to tell me. A hurricane and a mugger. Pacey: Oh, she told you about him? Mindy: Just mentioned that he didn’t make it. Pacey: It’s not as bad as it sounds. She just put him in the hospital. He died all on his own. Joey: Pacey, that is SO not funny. (Scene: Joey and Pacey walking on the beach at sunset.) Joey: It’s very beautiful, Pace. I miss this. Don’t get to see the sunset much in New York. Pacey: Oh, does the sun actually set in New York? Joey: (Smiles) Well, I’m told that it does if you’re between the right buildings and or even on top of the right one. (They walk a little while longer and he takes her hand.) Pacey: This was a great place to wake up. Joey: It would be a great place to raise a family, too. But, I love New York, too. The excitement, the rush, the variety.................... Pacey: It does have some interesting attractions. Joey:(Stopping and turning toward him) That was a less than enthusiastic endorsement if I’ve ever heard one. Pacey: Well, if you must know............(he hesitates) I don’t think I’ve ever been so torn about something in my life. When I left Capeside and moved to Boston, I never looked back. It was a new experience and my eyes were wide open with wonder. I, actually, came back to Capeside more because I needed to than because I wanted too. Now I’m older, more settled and I appreciate the small town warmth, the constant draw of the ocean. On the other hand, the sense of excitement, drive and ambition, the overwhelming awe I feel in New York pulls at me, too. Joey: (thoughtfully, drawing close and looking directly in his eyes) So, sweetheart, What does it mean? Are you unhappy? Pacey: (Smile) No. The deciding factor for me is you. I’m happy when you’re happy. Joey: You know I don’t really want to hear that.(reprovingly) You can’t be happy centering everything around me. Pacey: I’m really not, Jo. The new restaurant really has me motivated. It’s another chance for me to prove to myself that I can do something. I can be somebody. Joey: You are somebody, Pace. You’re my somebody. (She kissed him) Maybe you can become somebody enough that we can have a place here and one in New York. Pacey: (raising his eyebrows.) Sure, we can do that.(playing along) Joey: (Starts down the beach) And we can fly our helicopter back and forth on weekends.(she laughs) ( To Be Continued) _________________ Back to top TriciaC Junior Member Joined: Sep 16, 2004 Posts: 6 Posted: Sat Feb 12, 2005 16:25:32 Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As usual I loved the story. I'm so glad you addressed when Joey thought she was pregnant in season 4 but never told Pacey. That always bothered me. The bank robbery was so creative. I would have never thought of that. Every time you finish one part, I'm on pins and needles for the next one! Keep up these great stories!
