Chapter 5
After they had eaten, Joey cleaned up their dishes and the kitchen while Pacey rekindled the fire. Again, with last nights success in mind, hard wood went on last. Joey came in and sat, legs crossed on a floor pillow, near the fireplace. “I have an idea,” she said. “Remember when we played Truth with the guys at Andie’s party?” Pacey nodded yes. “Let’s do that. Just you and me. I think it’s a good way to get to the bottom of some of our hard questions,” suddenly serious.
“I think that’s a super idea, Jo. I’m going to get a beer. Can I get you anything before we start?”
“No, thanks,” she responded. “I’ll just drink yours.”
Pacey returned from the kitchen and sat directly in front of Joey, his longer legs straddling her crossed and tucked under legs. They sat with their faces no more than 18 inches apart.
“Are you wanting to talk or to kiss,” she questioned? “I’m not sure I should be so frank with you if you’re this close.” She laughed and said, “Okay, you want to go first?”
“Sure, why not?” Pacey pondered and asked, “Why didn’t it ever seem to bother you that whole year I spent with Audrey?”
She looked at him with unbelieving curiosity. “How can you ask me a question like that, when I was going to ask you, What were you thinking sleeping with my roommate for a year when you had this “unrequited love” for me?”
Pacey blushes, “Well, I guess we both have some things to address here, don’t we?”
Joey snorts, “Duh, yeah, but mostly you, turd bucket!” She slaps his arm laughing.
“Okay, I’ll start but you’ve got to promise..........none of that Pinter stuff. You know, truth can be false, false can be true, subtexts..........”
“Okay, Witter, what do you know about Pinter and how?” demanded Joey.
“Just a little something I learned from a former English teacher.”
“Oh, I see,” Joey said nodding knowingly. “She did teach you some things I guess. But then, that’s not even something I want to know about at this point,” she laughingly commented.
“Audrey..........I’m not sure Audrey is really even the issue. I don’t think I can start with Audrey. It was a confusing time for me, Jo. A lot of buried emotion and hurt. A lot of it self-inflicted.
“Pacey,” Joey interrupted, “We’re going to do this. One way or the other. Just know, sweetheart, even if you manage to say something totally unexpected, catch me off guard and upset me, there is no way you can make me love you less. I’ve worried over this for 7 years and faced every imaginable consequence. I promise you. I’m 100% committed to our relationship.”
Pacey answers, “I know you are, Jo”
Joey continues, “We’ve come this far with all of our dirty little secrets. Love did that. Now let’s develop some trust and faith in each other. What do you say, Witter? I’m not going anywhere.
Pacey takes a deep breath, sighs and responds, “Joey, you know don’t you, that when we broke up, when I blew up, it wasn’t because of the way I felt about you.”.
Joey nods solemnly. “You said it was about the way you felt about yourself.”
“And it was,” Pacey continues. “That much was true. I was, maybe, a step away from suicidal. The girl I loved more than life was going off to school to conquer the world. When we went to that Worthington mixer, I could see how irrelevant our situation was to you, but it made it even more clear to me that I could only hold you back. My hopes were raised and dashed all at once.”
Joey scolded, “You were so pig-headed.”
“And that’s putting it nicely,” Pacey agreed. “Also stupid. Jo, what was the number one reason we fought over the years?”
“Besides sex,” Joey teased?
“Not even close,” Pacey continued without a smile.
Joey relented, “Dawson.”
Pacey asked, “I know things are different now, but can we talk about Dawson without..........”
“Without fighting? Of course, we can, sweetheart,” Joey said.
“When I was in the Carribean that summer, I talked to Dawson and I asked about you.”
Joey appeared confused and asked, “Before or after he left for USC?”
Pacey answered, “Before.”
Joey questioned, “You’re sure?”
Pacey replied, “Yeah, definitely. Right before he left, in fact. We talked about it.”
Joey is contemplative and says, “Okay, go on.”
“Well, he made me believe that you were okay, but just getting along. He said you missed me.”
Joey reprimands, “Of course, I did, you big jerk!”
“But, Jo, it still seemed like you had moved on. Maybe even with him. As much as I had prepared for it, I kind of went into a tail spin. I started a relationship on the yacht with the Dean’s daughter, Melanie. It was never serious. Just for fun. Jo, the only way, I can see things now is in retrospect. I just feel smarter now. I think, at the time, I must’ve been trying to forget. It was safer than drinking. At the end of the summer she was leaving for school and I had the chance to go to Boston. It was a job I needed, but mainly I knew you were there.”
“So you’re saying you came to Boston because of me?” Joey asked. “Knowing that it’s all I ever asked you to do?”
Hanging his head, Pacey replied, “Yes.”
“Pace,” Joey entreated, “I never cared if you waited tables or pumped gas. I just wanted you to be there. And you promised.”
Pacey lamented, “I didn’t think I’d fit.”
Joey, “You didn’t think you’d fit with me?”
Pacey squirms, “Jo, you know what I meant”
Joey stands and walks near the fireplace. “You’re right, I am getting angry.” She pauses, and continues. “At both of us. Then Jen found you and told me that you told her not to tell me you were there.”
Pacey agrees, “That’s right. The guys thought that you and Dawson were flirting your way to a relationship and I decided I didn’t have the right to interfere.”
Joey turns back toward him and said, “Pacey, do you realize we could’ve been together all this time?” Pacey remains silent. Joey waits for a response, then sighs and says, “Go on.”
“From what I saw, I thought they were right. Even when Jen and Dawson got together, you took it too hard.”
Joey doesn’t respond. Instead she asks, “So, Audrey?”
Pacey nod affirmatively. “She was pretty and fun. I couldn’t stand being away from you. I couldn’t stand being with you. She was a wall. She numbed the pain. I guess, I used her.”
Joey is dumbstruck. “You don’t mean you knew you were doing this, do you?”
“No,” Pacey responds. “Just in retrospect, that’s the way it feels.”
“It’s no wonder she still hates you,” Joey responds critically. “I don’t know what to say.”
Pacey is defensive. “And you? Why did you let it happen?”
Joey strikes back almost in a shout, but on the edge of tears, “She was my first real girlfriend. She was wild, but a good person, really, and ................you were good for her.”
Pacey responds, “That’s not why, Joey.”
Joey admits, “After the mugging, when she told me about you. I put on my best friend face and told her it was great. It was okay. I cried myself to sleep every night that week. Eventually I was happy for her and happy for you. You seemed good together. For the record, it never stopped hurting. At least it finally became a dull ache.”
“I’m sorry, Jo.”
Joey responds tersely, “I need to be alone for a few minutes. Do you mind?”
Twenty minutes later, Pacey stood and walked to the back door. He hadn’t seen nor heard from Joey since she said she wanted some time. She had gone to get her coat and had gone outside, probably for a walk. It was very cold out.He assumed she was on the beach, and he was beginning to worry. Pacey got his own coat out of the closet and went outside onto the porch. From the inside she had been blocked from his vision by the vines covering the porch. As he walked out, she was immediately visible standing silent and still as a statue on the beach just out of reach of the lapping surf. Assured of her safety, Pacey sat on the porch swing and watched, and waited. Pacey pulled the coat tight around him, pulled the hood up and tried not to freeze.
Shortly he snapped to attention at the sound of her voice.
“You’re going to freeze out here” she chided. “What are you doing anyway? Come on in. How can you fall asleep in that wind?”
“How indeed?” Pacey responded. I was just watching you on the beach and then you’re here...... watching me I guess” he said embarrassed. Joey walked across in front of the fire and removed her coat and gloves. “I think I’m ready now”, she said.
Pacey said, “For your turn?”
Joey replied, “I had to get myself prepared. I know what your question will be. I’ve gone over it time and time again for the last 5 years and still don’t have an acceptable answer. Why did I leave you for Eddie? The only thing I can say is, borrowing from your excuse, I can only answer in retrospect. But at least I, finally, have an answer. It’s going to sound an awful lot like I’m blaming you, Pace, but I’m not. I think you were shortsighted and silly doing what you did to us in high school, but there’s no question whatsoever, you did it for me. What I did to you, I did for me.” She hesitates. “I need something to drink. Can I get you something, Pace?” He responds negatively and she gets a bottle of water from the refrigerator. “Up until you missed graduation, Pace, I was hurt but I was convinced we could still find our way through our problems. I never really believed you would get on that boat. When you did, and didn’t say goodbye, I was heartbroken. No one, not even Dawson, knew what it did to me. He was with me tirelessly just like he was with me when my mother died. I owed him everything, but I also became dependent on him. I’ve heard so much from everyone the last few years about me and running from relationships. Gretchen, Bodie, Bessie, and even Jen all believe that I ran every time I got serious. That I can’t handle relationships. I can’t handle being in love. Pacey........I never once ran from anything in my life until after you. Dawson loved me...........
“He still does,” Pacey interrupted.
“Let me finish, sweetheart. I’ve never doubted he loved me. I loved him too, but not the same way. I wanted to love him. I really did. We were always so good together, but I wasn’t in love. There was no pitter-patter heart. I didn’t have to run, but I would have if Jen and Mitch hadn’t happened in his life. It was startling, but I remember telling you that a part of me was relieved that Jen was taking over.
Pacey said, “I remember my own heart skipping a beat when you told me.”
Joey sighed and begged, “Pacey, you’ve always been so bold, so spontaneous. Why didn’t you say something?”
Pacey shrugged, “I don’t know. You were hurt and vulnerable. You were talking to me as a friend. We hadn’t been able to do that for awhile.”
Joey admitted, “That’s true. I’m just trying to shift the blame I guess. So..........that’s about when my year with you and Audrey started. I adjusted........almost had an affair with my literature professor...........
Pacey smiles, “Not so quick to judge me any more, Potter?”
Joey continues, “I didn’t really date much. I hung out with Charlie Todd for awhile. That should tell you something about my state of mind,” she laughed. “Finally Dawson came back and tried again. Again, I needed someone. You’ll remember this because you were there. We fought over silly stuff, he left me a letter and I crumbled. You and I raced to the airport to stop him and Audrey. You spent an exciting and romantic summer with Audrey in LA while Dawson and I spent the whole summer ignoring everything that we promised each other at the airport.” Joey walks across the room and sits beside Pacey on the sofa. She takes his hand, “Pace, I really believe you ruined me. You and I weren’t just friends, just lovers or even just a couple. We were together...........part of each other. I wanted to have that with Dawson but it just wasn’t the same. I always knew it immediately. I repeatedly set him up and pulled the rug out from under him. I was unintentionally so cruel to him. It happened again the beginning of sophomore year. You’ll remember that one too. You were there.
Pacey agrees, “Yep, the actress.
“She was really just an excuse,” Joey admits. “We made a mistake and I knew it. The next thing I knew I met Eddie. He was you and he was Dawson. He was smart and he was fun. He was also something completely new and exciting. Strangely enough, Dawson and I humiliating ourselves in front of all of our friends was liberating. I decided from the beginning to go for it. No more prudish Joey Potter. I fell for him hard and it was good but he had, sorry Pace, the same chip on his shoulder as you about not being good enough. When he left, I knew I’d miss him. I might have even loved him, but I helped him get into school and shipped him off. A few nights later, we stopped at Kmart and you kissed me. I wasn’t the least bit confused. I didn’t need to sleep on it. It hit me like trying to stand up in a hurricane.” She turns on the sofa and tucks her legs under her and says, “Pace, have you ever noticed how the key moments in our relationship always seem to happen when you surprise me with a kiss. The good ones anyway.” Pacey immediately leans over and kisses her deeply, intensely.
“Can this be one?” he said.
Joey smiles innocently at Pacey and says wishfully, “That would be nice, but I’m not sure it works that way.”
Pacey says, “Why don’t I just keep my fingers crossed then.”
Joey, seriously again, says, “Pace, I was swept away. It was like we had never been apart and that was confusing because everything I had seen for the last two years said otherwise. But now you were successful and confident. My heart said you were my Pacey, but my head said no. Just when I started to feel my heart take over, Eddie showed up. I told him immediately, Pace, that it was over. I told him I had moved on and I meant it. I could tell it hurt him badly. After all it had only been a few weeks since I left him in California. I couldn’t face you that night so I went home and made my excuses. I worried over it all day and then we went to Haley’s dance. Everything was perfect for us that night, but I still felt guilty. I didn’t really understand why. I think on a subconscious level I might have even wanted to hurt you the way you hurt me. Truly, though, I thought it was going to happen to me again.” Joey begins weeping softly. “Pacey I’ve lost everyone I’ve ever really loved. My mom, my dad, and you. I knew it was going to happen again. I used Eddie. There’s no other way to see it now. The next day he was already angry with me because I was being so standoffish to him. We talked about going off to Paris for the summer. I needed to make money, he wanted to go. We were just talking about running away for a summer together before we both went our way. He wanted to and I didn’t. A week after the dance, he was gone for good.
“A week, Jo?” Pacey asked.
Joey replied, “Less than a week.” Pacey embraces her and she cries on his shoulder. Starting again, “There were a number of other relationships in college after that. None lasted more than a couple of months. I never let any of them get too close. After college, I started work and met Christopher. Somewhere around then, I actually found a few days when I didn’t think about you.”
“It’s alright, Jo. It’s behind us”.
Joey replied, “Is it? How can two people who love each other hurt each other so much.?”
Pacey said, “I don’t know. I just know I want it to be over.” Pacey stirs the fire, sits on the sofa and motions her to sit beside him. They don’t speak for a long time. Eventually Pacey speaks. “Jo, we should get some sleep. Let’s make this the last day of this chapter. Let’s make this one of our moments.”
“How, Pacey?” she asked.
“Let’s go to bed and sleep the bitter, bitter sleep of this night. We agree that when we get up it’s over. We’ll have a big day, and put some distance between us and this whole ugly thing. What do you say?”
“Okay,” she smiled.
“I don’t know about you, but I’ve been looking forward to that bed all day,” said Pacey. When they reached the room, Pacey stripped to his boxers and climbed under the covers. Joey went to the restroom and came out in flannel pajamas and climbed in next to him and cuddled.
“Pace,” she said. “Is it all right if we just hold each other and sleep tonight?”
Pacey replies, “Not only is it okay, I think it’s the right thing to do.” He gives her a kiss on the top of the head and they lay quietly and peacefully until sleep takes them. |

Chapter 6
Morning came early for Pacey evidenced by the beautiful view of the sun just above the water. He had been a morning person for years now, probably a result of living at sea and on the water. It was the most natural thing in the world for him now to be up and first sunlight and he used the time for a jog around the neighborhood most days. Joey, on the other hand would sleep for hours longer without an alarm. Today, he decided, she could do just that. He needed time to prepare for their big day anyway. Unlike so many mornings, he did have full movement in his left arm. Joey was curled up on her side facing away from him. He slipped his feet easily off the edge of the bed and stood. He walked to the window and looked outside. “I could live like this,” he thought to himself. “What am I doing in the city?” He walked into the restroom, opened his shaving kit and heard Joey rustle in the bed. He stepped back and looked across the room. She had turned over and her arm was reached out across the bed as if reaching for him. He smiled at his sleeping beauty and was thankful. As he stood shaving in front of the mirror, he reflected on the night before. Thankfully, looking back, it felt therapeutic. “ Hopefully it will for Joey also,” he thought. When finished, he slipped into a pair of jeans and a Bruins hoodey, this time finding a coat to wear and went down to warm up the car. He started it, and left it running while he loaded his arms with firewood and went in to stoke the dying fire. “Joey will enjoy it when she wakes up”, he thought. Next, back to the car, and down the road toward town. It was still before 7 am, but marina folk are early risers. He drove thru town and saw Marsha outside Tall Barney’s and she waved. He grinned, thinking how odd it seems to have people so friendly and so open. He turned at the next right and headed down toward the marina. He had noticed the day before when they went on their nature trek that next to the tour headquarters was a small building with a sign out front that said Boat Rentals. He pulled up outside and sure enough, the front door was open and a man in his sixties, probably, was standing just inside. “Good Morning,” he greeted Pacey as he shut the car door.
“How are you this beautiful day, sir.” said Pacey. “I’m looking to rent a boat, a sail boat if you have one available.”
“I do as a matter of fact” the man returned. “Little beauty that once belonged to my son. Are you a sailor?” he asked, eying Pacey from head to toe.
“I’ve been called one in my day,” said Pacey, “here lately I’m called a restauranteur”, he laughed. “What a horrendous word. Actually, I restored my first sailboat in high school and lost her in a hurricane. I spent the summer after high school crewing on a yacht based out of Boston and have done a lot of sailing the last few years in borrowed boats. I’m comfortable on my own if that’s your concern.”
“I wasn’t concerned”, he said. “You have the look about you even if you don’t look like you live the life. My name’s Ruben. A hundred dollars a day is what she costs. Let me show her to you. Come on this way. She’s out back.” Pacey followed the old sailor thru his shack and out the back door to a small private dock where about eight boats of various shapes and sizes were moored.. Walking past the shrimper near the end, he couldn’t see the little sailboat until he was almost to her. Pacey stopped in his tracks and his mouth dropped open when he saw Ruben’s little beauty. She didn’t just look like True Love, she could be True Love. He slowed and walked around her with a look of sheer amazement on his face. Ruben watched him with a mixed look of humor and curiosity.
“Is there anything wrong, friend,” Ruben asked. “You look a little odd.”
Pacey initially didn’t answer and finally said, “Huh? Oh sorry. I can’t believe it. She is exactly my sailboat. The one I rebuilt in high school. She was called True Love. Same exact blue and white. My girlfriend and I took her to Key West when we were 16.”
“Sixteen, huh? If the Coast Guard didn’t catch up to you, it must’ve been true love” he chortled.
Pacey said chuckling, “Yeah, I guess it was. She’s here with me.......still asleep. She’ll just die when she sees her. Ruben, a hundred dollars. Do you need a deposit. We’re staying up at the Peterson place. Name’s Pacey Witter.”
“I already know’d who ya was,” Ruben said. “Word gets around here, especially outside of tourist season. There’s a private dock at the Peterson place if you want to take her now”, Ruben smiled.
“Ruben, that’s a great idea. Thanks.”
Pacey set out under the watchful eye of Ruben and headed down the coastline toward the Peterson place. He could actually see it as soon as he cleared the marina. “God, this feels good,” he thought as he got his sea legs under him. “Jo is going to be so thrilled.”
Pacey pulled up alongside the Peterson boathouse and tied her up. He didn’t even look at her name. Never even thought about it. She was going to be True Love today. He had to finish preparations but this sure gave him a leg up on the day. He went inside and upstairs. He had been gone a little over an hour and Joey was still asleep. Back downstairs, he opened the fridge and pantry and put together a nice picnic lunch. Next, breakfast. They had bought the makings for a couple of good breakfasts. He decided on french toast and bacon, plus some fruit......strawberries, and grapes. “No, we’ll take the grapes in our lunch. Just the strawberries.”
When he was finished, he found a tray and loaded it for both of them and carried it upstairs. He sat the tray down on the little table just inside the door of the room and went to wake Joey. It was just before 9AM.
“Jo, wake up, babe.”. She moved a bit, but didn’t respond. He bent down close to her ear, and whispered, “Wake up, beautiful”. This time she definitely responded, but only twitched her nose and turned over. “Okay, you’re forcing me to play the trump card.” He walked to the end of the bed, pulled the covers off of her feet and tickled them. She jerked her feet up and shot up in bed, “Pacey, what the hell” she started. He stood grinning in delight. Her hair looked like she had been asleep for weeks and she gave him a horrible look. “What are you doing to me,” she said.
“Good morning, sunshine”, Pacey said. “It’s a beautiful day and do I have surprises in store for you.”
“Surprises,” she said. “As in presents?” she questioned cutely.
“Well not so much presents as just plain surprises. But I know you’ll love them.”
“Oh you do, huh? Since when do you know me so well, bus boy.” she teased.
“Since today. You just wait and see. I’m glad to see you woke up in a good mood,”Pacey said.
“I do feel good. How about you?”, Joey said.
“Jo, I feel GREAT. And I’m ready to get going” He walks over and gets her breakfast. “Sit back down and eat this so we can get moving.” He kissed her on the mouth and backs away. “Ooh, morning breath.” he said laughing.
“And that’s your last one THIS morning”, she retorted.
They sat together on the bed and ate and marveled at how much better they feel today. “It really worked, didn’t it,” Joey asked.
Pacey said, “I’ve never been much of a believer in fate, Jo, but I just may be coming around. Are you finished eating now?”
“Alright, alright,” she said. “I’m getting ready”.
“No, not yet. That’s not why I asked. Come over here, Jo.” She walks across to the window where he’s looking out.
“It’s beautiful here in the morning isn’t it, P..............” She stopped. “Pacey. That’s True Love”.
She turned and looked at him. She throws her arms around him. “It is, isn’t it?” She began to cry. |

Chapter 7
Early afternoon found Joey and Pacey sailing on the outer edges of the islands. They had sailed by the wildlife preserve and at least 3 islands with obvious colonies of seals. The view was amazing and just being out on the water was a literal breath of fresh air. The presence of “True Love” was an unexpected and exciting part of their day. When Pacey had first unfurled sail and sailed full and free into the ocean tears pooled in his eyes. “Jo, how I miss this,” he had said. Now they were looking for a likely spot to hole up for part of the afternoon, to simply relax, have their picnic and bathe in the warmth of the sun in the warmest part of the day. Finally they saw a small island with a protected little cove on the mainland side and decided to try it. They sailed in to a level of around 3 feet deep and weighed anchor. “I say we skip the dinghy and wade in,” said Pacey.
“Are you crazy, Pace? The water’s freezing,” replied Joey. Pacey just responded with a grin and held up two pairs of waist high wading boots. He pulled on a pair and jumped over the side. The water was up to his thighs only so he stayed comfortably dry. He reached over the side and picked up their cooler and waded toward the shore. Joey watched with obvious disdain. She had no desire whatsoever to wade to shore. Pacey made his way back and retrieved the picnic basket and blankets and carried them to shore. Again he returned. “Your turn, Jo. Just put them on and jump in. It’s not that bad.”
Joey said, “Pacey, these things are going to swallow me. Plus I’m not tall enough and the water’s going to come over the top.”
“Come on, Jo. It only comes to my thighs so there’s plenty of room to spare for you. Now come here and give me a kiss and I’ll help you.”
She frowned and walked over. “I’ll give you a kiss, but I’m not coming. Just bring me something to eat here.” She smiled cutely and kissed him lightly. Pacey deepened the kiss, then pulled her screaming onto his shoulder and fireman-carried her to the shore. He sat her down on terra firma and she said, “Smooth move, Captain Caveman.”
Pacey laughed, and said, “Be glad I didn’t drop you in the water.”
“You wouldn’t dare,” Joey retorted.
“What a day this is, Jo. I feel great. This place is great. And best of all..........we’re together.” He picked her up and twirled in circles while kissing.
“You know, I feel it too”, she said. When I woke up this morning, even though you were there and taunting me with food, a part of my mind was saying, ‘Did it work?’. Then I saw the boat, and it’s like it was a sign. All of my doubts and fears just washed away. Pace, do you think it was a sign?”
“I don’t know..........I never really thought about whether I believe in signs or not. But I’d like to believe in this one,” Pacey said.
“Me too,” Joey said. “Maybe we’ll get another one. What did you get me for lunch, Witter? I’m hungry.”
“I’m afraid it’s just sandwiches, chips and cookies. When I did my prep work it was too early for the stores to be open”, said Pace.
“It’s okay,” said Jo. “I like cookies.” She smiled a huge teasing smile. They ate, talked and walked along the rocky shore. They chased each other, threw rocks into the ocean and lay in each others arms while basking in the sun. Around 4 pm Pacey decided it was time to head back. “The sun’s getting low and we probably have about 45 minutes to sail with the current winds. Hop on my back and I’ll give you a piggy back ride to the boat.” He carried her out and gently deposited her this time and then returned to get the basket, cooler and blankets. When all the gear was stowed they set sail into the western setting sun. They had been sailing for about 15 minutes and had come within sight of the town, though still probably two miles out when Joey, who was standing near the cabin door, audibly gasped. “Pacey!!”, she cried out. “Look”.
Pacey turned and looked in the direction she was pointing. Not more than 50 feet from the little sailboat was a whale, a finback as it turned out, of about 65 feet in length. As they watched spellbound and a little fearful, first one and then as many as five or six more appeared and seemed to be circling the little boat. One of them, the farthest away blew from his spout twice and the spray was not only water but chunks of what was probably his diet. They held hands and watched in amazement as the whales were joined a little further out by a pod of Whitesided Dolphin. They knew from the tour yesterday that these creatures were really whales despite their name and frequently were seen in pods of 60 or 70. They couldn’t see that many but there were a lot. As they watched, a single large whale of possibly 50ft came extremely close to the little sailboat. Joey panicked and held to Pacey fiercely. The whale came within 5 feet and they could clearly see his big eye as it looked at them. Then just a suddenly, it dove as did the other whales. The temporary “True Love” was rocked roughly as the backwash of the dive pushed her roughly in every direction. The Whitesides seemed to be gone as well. Pacey and Joey just stood silently and pondered what they had just seen.
“A sign,” Pacey asked?
“Yeah,” Joey agreed.
They continued their trek home and didn’t speak again until they were once again in front of Pacey’s newly roaring fire.
“Can you believe that?” he said.
“Apparently, we both saw it,” Joey offered.
“Yeah,” Pacey agreed.
Pacey sat on the sofa and didn’t speak again. Joey got a bottle of wine, poured two glasses and joined him. She handed him a glass and they both sipped. She curled up next to him and tucked her feet up under her. Pacey put his arm around her and allowed her hair to invade the space inhabited by his face. “Always fresh” he thought. “She always smells fresh”. After a few minutes, Joey kissed Pacey’s neck with the tiniest little bite and then a little nibble on his ear lobe as well.
“Hmmmmmmmm,”Pacey moaned as he felt her heat along his side. Turning toward her, he tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and kissed her neck tenderly. He could taste the salty remains of their voyage that day and smelled the sweetness of her. What began as tender and playful kissing became more intense as he felt her hands slip under his shirt and trace the lines of his chest and back. He leaned backwards on the sofa and pulled her toward him tugging her sweatshirt over her head as she came down on his chest. Their lips met and kissed, tongues dancing in and out and lingering sweetly in a deep kiss. Joey pushed up from his chest and moved down so that she could tease him while working his belt buckle with her free hand. Pacey moaned his delight as he clutched at Joey’s shoulders trying to pull her back up on him.“Let’s go upstairs,” Joey breathed. “Okay, If I can still walk,” Pacey joked. She ran up the stairs unfastening her remaining clothes as she went. Pacey gathered the wine and glasses and followed.
Pacey entered the bedroom in time to see a completely nude and completely beautiful Jo climbing into the bed and under the warm covers. “Hurry, Pace.” she entreated. He entered the room and slowly but deliberately teased Joey as his took off his remaining shoes, socks and pants. Finally waving his boxers in her face, he crawled under the covers and pulled her to him.
Some minutes later, spent and muscles weary they lay side by side. Pacey’s hand rested upon her naked hip and Joey’s hand was on his chest. Joey lay with her eye’s closed but Pacey knew she didn’t sleep.
“Jo,” Pacey said.
“Yes, sweetheart,” Joey replied.
“I don’t have a ring or anything, but we said we’d know when it’s time,” Pacey said.
Joey replied, “And you think it’s time?”
“I do,” Pacey replied. “I mean, we don’t have to do anything right away if you want to plan and stuff like that.”
“Uh, huh”, Joe murmured.
“But I’d really like a fiancee, Jo.”
“You would, would you?” inquired Joey.
“Yeah, I really would,” Pacey admitted.
“Well.............(she cuddles up closer in bed) I think that could be arranged.”
“Is that a yes, Jo?”
“Do you think it’s a yes, Pace?”
“I guess I do.” he replied.
“You know me too well, Pace.” |

| [b:d82945a397]Episode 11 A Frightening Engagement[/b:d82945a397]
Scene: Potter B&B guest room. Pacey and Mindy are sitting on the bed watching Joey empty a suitcase into the closet and chest of drawers.
Pacey: Personally, I’d just live out of the suitcase. We’re only going to be here two days.
Joey: Well, that’s the difference in you and me, Pace. I can’t do that. My clothes will wrinkle.
Mindy: Ooooh, and Joey wouldn’t look perfect. (Teasingly)
Joey: Hey, you’re supposed to be on my side.
Pacey: My point exactly, Mindy. Who are we here to impress? People we’ve known our entire lives. Half of them have seen you naked, Jo.
Joey: Shut up! They have not. (Mindy laughs)
Pacey: Let’s see now, there’s Bessie, and ............
Joey: Stop it, Pacey. So, not very funny. (Pacey walks up behind and hugs her.)
Pacey: Now, now. What’s the big deal, Jo. We’re here for a party with our oldest friends. Why are you so uptight?
Joey: (turns around and kisses him on the cheek then pushes him away and continues unpacking)
It happens to be our engagement party, Pacey. We need to look nice.
Pacey: If it hasn’t escaped your attention, it also happens to be Halloween. You don’t think there maybe a little bit of a coincidence here. I’d lay odds that Dawson is up to something here.
Joey: He wouldn’t.................you don’t think he would do you?
Mindy: What? What are you guys talking about?
Joey: Dawson has always had this thing for Halloween, Mindy. If he didn’t have a party, he’d be playing practical jokes on people all day. He’s scared the you know what out of me more than once.
Pacey: Try he’s scared the pants off of you every year of your life. (Grins)
Mindy: Sounds like fun.
Joey: But this years different. Jack assured me that this is our traditional get together, but it’s really only because of scheduling that we’re doing it on Halloween.
Pacey: And just because it’s Jack, you believe him.
Joey: Yes, don’t you?
Pacey: We’ll see. Jack enjoys a good laugh from time to time himself. ( he moves toward the door.) I’m going to go down to the Icehouse and look things over. Can I bring you ladies anything back?
Mindy: No thanks, Pacey.
Joey: We should be fine. Mindy and I will probably go shopping later anyway.
Pacey: Okay, I’ll see you in plenty of time to get ready for the party. (Pacey leaves)
Joey: I hope he’s wrong about Dawson and Jack.
Scene: Jack’s dining room. Jack is hanging decorations in the house in preparation for the evenings party while Grams is making preparations of her own.
Grams: You’ve certainly put a lot of work into this party, Jack. It’s very sweet of you.
Jack: Well, I’m the logical person. Dawson, Andie, Gretchen..........they all live elsewhere. If we ever have a chance to do this it has to be in Capeside and I thought why not? It’ll be fun.
Grams: Halloween does seem an odd time though.
Jack: I know. I hope they understand. Dawson is in Boston on business. It’s Andie’s weekend off. Gretchen was confident she could get the weekend off and the others all live here. It was just too convenient to pass up.
Grams: Well, I’m confident they will appreciate the effort and the love being shown no matter when it comes. I better go check on Amy.
(Jack reaches into the box and pulls out a cardboard cut-out skeleton, considers it and puts it back. He continues with the candles, balloons and crepe paper decorations considered to be more appropriate for an engagement party.)
Scene: Jack’s house. Pacey, Joey and Mindy are just arriving and getting out of the car. The house is lavishly decorated on the outside with Halloween decor. Giant spider webs and spiders hang from the trees, Jack o lanterns and ghosts adorn the yard. Ghostly music plays quietly complete with sound effects coming from the porch.
Joey: Uh oh.
Pacey: Now, Jo. Don’t overreact. (He chuckles)
Mindy: What awesome decorations.
Joey: He’s gone all out alright. I just hope it’s not for us.
Pacey: These don’t look like typical party decorations. I’m sure it’s just his thing.......probably does it every year. Doug was always into Halloween, too.
(The front door opens and Jack steps onto the porch)
Jack: Hi, guys. (He notices them looking around) Don’t worry. (Laughing) I promise you, there’s no Halloween decorations inside here. Come on in.
Joey: (walks up the steps and hugs Jack) Jack, it’s so sweet of you to do this for us.
Jack: I’m probably more excited than you are. I didn’t think Pacey would ever get up the nerve and I wasn’t sure you’d ever stop..........
Joey: If you say running I’m going to hit you.
Jack: Okay, try walking briskly..........
Joey: Oh!! ( Joey punches him in the arm and walks in to hug Grams waiting by the door.)
Mindy: Hi, Jack. It’s good to be home. Hi Grams. Anything I can do to help?
Pacey: Hey, Jack. Got anything to drink? I think I’m going to need it. (Grins)
Jack: Sure thing, Pace. Come on in. Doug and Gretchen are already here.
(They enter the house and as Jack is about to close the door, he sees a car pull in. He steps out on the porch and watches as Andie exits her car and approaches. Jack walks down the steps and hugs his sister.)
Jack: Andie, I am glad you could make it. It’ll mean so much to them too.
Andie: I had to call in one favor and trade one shift but it will be worth it. I’m so excited for them. I can’t believe Pacey ever got up the nerve to ask.
Jack: (smiling) Maybe he didn’t. They’re not talking about it for some reason. We’ll have to try to worm it out of them tonight.
Andie: You don’t mean you think Joey asked? Surely not!
Jack: Well, I doubt that too. It’s probably more to do with some embarrassing story they don’t want to tell. Remember how hard it was to get their Key West story out of them? Let’s go on in.
(Scene: Dining room, Jack’s house. Mindy is helping Grams set the table. Through the doorway Joey can be seen talking to Doug, Andie and Gretchen.)
Mindy: Everything is so nice, Grams. I know you need some help though. I should’ve come over as soon as we got into town.
Grams: Everything is under control, Mindy, dear, but I can use your help on some last minute details.
Mindy: I , actually, thought about having Pacey drop me off over here on our way into town, but it’s so entertaining watching those two spar with each other.
Grams: I’m very happy for them. I wish my granddaughter could have been here tonight. She loved them both very much.
Mindy: And they are so happy, too. They were a lot of fun before the engagement, but now, it’s almost so sickly sweet I can’t stand to be around too much.(She grins. Joey enters and walks to Grams and hugs her.)
Joey: It’s so good to see you. And it’s so sweet of you and Jack to go to so much trouble for us.
Grams: Nonsense, my dear. If we weren’t doing this, we would be having a Halloween party. Which do you think I prefer?”
Joey: (laughs) I see what you mean. You don’t think............I mean, he’s not going to make this a combination engagement and Halloween party is he?
Grams: I think you’re safe. I made that one of the ground rules for my help. He can decorate outside all he wants but inside is strictly your party. I believe he’s planning on living up to his bargain.
Joey: Oh thank you. Our little group has been famous for it’s Halloween fiascos. I wasn’t looking forward to this being another of those.
(Scene: Living room of Jack’s house. Jack and Pacey stand near the door talking. Doug, Gretchen and Andie continue to talk near the fireplace in view of the dining room door. The door bell rings and Jack answers. He opens the door to see Bessie and Mike Potter along with B&B guest, Dawson.)
Jack: Alright. You made it! (He hugs Dawson and Bessie, shakes hands with Mike. Pacey greets them in kind.)
Pacey: Mike, good to see you. Joey will be glad you’re here. I think she’s in there with Grams.
Mike: Congratulations, Pacey. I talked to Joey on the phone and she couldn’t be happier. So, welcome to the family.
Bessie: Yeah, little brother.(grins) Before you go back to New York I have some work for you to do on my heater.
Pacey: (shock) You’re kidding......right?
Bessie: Of course, I’m kidding. (Kisses Pacey on the cheek) I always wanted a brother.(smiles and walks off to the dining room.)
Mike: Have you talked to Ray? Business is really good.
Pacey: Yeah, we spoke this afternoon. He’s already depending on you a lot it sounds like. I appreciate that, Mike.
Mike: I’m doing what I love doing, and for once I have a good reason to want to do a good job. Thank You, Pacey.
(Cut to Dawson and Jack talking with Gretchen, Doug and Andie.)
Gretchen: Jack was saying he wasn’t sure you could make it.
Dawson: I was already in Boston, but one meeting got cancelled and another postponed. Six months ago I would’ve been stuck with no way out, but I seem to have a little more clout now. I postpone my meeting too.(smiles)
Doug: Dawson Leery has arrived.(smiling)
Gretchen: So you just told the Hollwood big shots that you had a party to go to, and they could just rearrange their schedules?
Dawson: Yeah. That’s pretty much it.
Andie: So the important stuff. Tell us how the movie’s coming along.
Jack: And Sandra Bullock!!
Gretchen: Jack!! You’re gay, remember?(laughing)
Jack: Hey! It’s not every gay guy who has a friend dating movie stars.
Dawson: (laughing) It’s not what it looks like. She and I just attend things together that our PR guy sets up for us.
Doug: That’s it? Really?
Dawson: Yes, really. She’s a beautiful and very nice lady, but, we’re just...........friends. I guess we are. We’re friends.
Andie: (stealing a furtive glance with Gretchen) Well you’ve sure got all of those photographers fooled.
Dawson: They believe what they want to believe and what our publicity people want them to believe.
Jack: So, the movie?
Dawson: (shrugs and hesitates, then in a qualifying manner) It’s going really well. Shooting actually finished last Tuesday. We’ve probably got another few months in the studio, editing and sound work. Then it’s up to the marketing people and the studio. It could be 6 months. It could be 2 years.
Andie: A little more complex than Swamp Thing, I guess? (Andie notices Gretchen moving her head toward the dining room and she follows her there. They join the other ladies in conversation.)
Andie: Joey, congratulations. I don’t know how you did it, but it’s just great!
Gretchen:(laughing) I doubt it was that hard, Andie. Little brother’s head has been in the cloud over this girl for years.
Joey: Thanks, you guys. It means a lot to me.
Andie: I believe in being direct. Why don’t you want to tell anybody about the proposal?
Gretchen: ANDIE!!
Mindy: (laughing) She won’t tell anybody.
Joey: It’s not that, you guys. It’s special......private.
Andie: Joey, we all no that Pacey has been famous for all his life for making the grand gesture. This one had to be huge.
Mindy: Or did she ask him?
Joey: Mindy! I told you. I did not ask Pacey.
Andie: Okay, then confess. What happened? You were in Maine. We know that. On the beach? In front of the fireplace?
Joey: Alright! We were eating blueberry pancakes. ( they all look shocked)
Mindy: No he didn’t. You guys told me the pancake story and it had nothing to do with a proposal. (Joey gives her a dirty look)
Grams: (off handedly remarks while setting a dish on the table.) Then he must’ve done it in bed.
(They all turn to look at Joey quickly and quietly blushing)
(Cut to Jack and Pacey)
Pacey: So Jack, Joey was dead certain that this was going to be at least 50% Halloween party so you could get another shot at scaring the wits out of her.
Jack: (feigning innocence) Pacey, does that sound like something I would do? (Pacey opens his mouth to respond) Don’t answer that! It sounds exactly like something I would do.
Pacey: If you are, it’s okay. No one likes to scare Joey more than I do.(g)
Jack: Sorry, Pace. I promised Grams nothing goes on inside this house tonight that’s not official engagement party business.
(Dawson joins them)
Dawson: So guys, what am I missing?
Jack: Pacey thinks we probably set them up for a Halloween gag tonight. (Dawson grins)
Pacey: Now, I did not say that. I just asked and I didn’t include Dawson at all, but now that you mention it............
Dawson: What’s a Halloween prank without me, huh?
Pacey: Exactly.
Dawson: Well, if I had been here instead of tied up in Boston, you probably would’ve been right. As it is, I’m lucky to even be here. Sorry to disappoint. (Jack notices Grams motioning him over)
Jack: It looks like it’s probably time to eat. (Loudly) Everyone, have a seat. It’s time for dinner. |

| [b:3a7a173c54]Episode 11 A Very Frightening Engagement[/b:3a7a173c54] Part 2
(Scene: Jack’s house at the dining room table.)
Jack: Everyone, welcome to our home. I’d like to thank Grams for all the hard work she’s put in to prepare our meal tonight. Where would we all be today without her.
Grams: Thank you, Jack. No thanks necessary though. You children have added long and fruitful years to my life, and I’m grateful to you all in return. Now, if you all don’t mind, I’ll say grace. I’m not sure I could deal with a repeat of the Christmas thanks given a few years ago. (Smiles)
Mike: Ms. Ryan, I’d appreciate it very much, if you’d allow me to say grace.(Grams nods almost imperceptibly and bows her head)
Mike: Dear Lord, we gather here tonight to give thanks and to celebrate the engagement of my beautiful Joey, and my boss. I’m thankful that she still loves me despite my failures. I’m thankful to him for believing in me when most people would not have. I’m thankful that you’ve allowed them to become so happy. I’m also thankful for my other daughter and my beautiful grandchild, and Bodie who makes them happy. I thank you for the wonderful friends who have filled their lives and even now work to fill mine as well. Thank you for Ms. Ryan and the food she has prepared for us. Amen.
(All say, Amen)
Jack: Family style everyone. Grab it before it’s all gone. (They begin filling their plates, and passing dishes around the table. Conversation is animated and lively as they eat. Finally, one at a time they begin to settle back from their plates, satisfied and happy. Joey rises.)
Joey: I noticed Grams making coffee. Can I get anyone a cup? (Grams begins to rise)
Gretchen: No, Ms. Ryan. You stay. Let me help.(Doug, Jack, Mike and Andie indicate they’ll take a cup and the ladies leave the room.)
Pacey: That was a wonderful meal, Ms. Ryan. It’s no wonder Jack doesn’t often eat at the Icehouse.
Mike: Absolutely. It was terrific.(all around the table the others mutter their assent.)
Doug: (standing) When the ladies come back, I’d like to make a toast to Pacey and Joey. Does everyone still have at least a little wine? (Jack stands and refills their glasses, even giving a small amount to Mindy. Joey and Gretchen return, serve the coffee and sit.)
Doug: From the day, my little brother told me about this girl he was crazy about, I saw him begin to change. A few weeks later he told me he kissed her and that she pushed him and shoved him. He was discouraged. I told him, if she didn’t have some feelings do you think she would’ve responded so strongly? Shortly thereafter, I was helping my Dad hunt for the two of them up and down the Massachusetts coast, unsuccessfully I might add, because they were on their way to Key West. It’s been an up and down relationship, but no one’s ever doubted their love for one another. To my brother, Pacey...........may you and the love of your life live in peace, joy and happiness always. ( He raises his glass and says cheers. Everyone says cheers and drinks. The conversation resumes around the table and the door bell rings.)
Jack: I wonder who that could be? Everyone’s here but Bodie.
Bessie: And he said he couldn’t make it until much later.
(Jack goes to answer the front door. He opens it and one of the boys who works at the Icehouse, Dennis Harper, is at the door.)
Jack: Hi, Dennis. What brings you around here?
Dennis: Hi, Mr. McPhee. Actually Mindy called and told me she was going to be here. Can I talk to her maybe?
Jack: Sure, I don’t see why not. We’re pretty much through eating anyway. Come on inside.
Dennis: No, thanks. If it’s all the same to you, I’ll wait here on the porch.
Jack: Okay, suit yourself. (Jack turns and calls) Mindy. The door’s for you.
(Mindy rises and walks to the front door. Jack stops her momentarily by the arm.)
Jack: Don’t worry, I won’t tell them he didn’t just happen by. ( Jack grins and Mindy blushes)
(Mindy goes outside and closes the door. Jack returns to the table.)
Jack: It’s Dennis Harper, from the Icehouse, Pacey..............for Mindy? Shouldn’t you go threaten him or something?
Pacey: Well, he is one of the good ones, and (turning to Joey) our little girl IS growing up.
Dawson: I would think you’d be happier with her growing up here than in New York.
Joey: That’s a good point, but we’re her family now........at least for now, and we’re in New York.
Dawson: So Pacey, we haven’t had a chance to talk. What’s the story on the Icehouse going to Boston? Are you really looking to expand again?
Pacey: It’s a little soon for me too. But we are doing well, and my financiers have always wanted to open shop in their own................
(All glance up as they hear a squeal of tires, followed by a crash. Doug and Jack quickly arise, but before they can cross the room, they hear a door slam and another squealing of tires. Pacey and Dawson stand also and all move toward the front door. As they go outside, they notice a car parked curbside has been smashed and pushed up almost far enough to block the driveway. Dawson’s car, the last car in the driveway has a punctured tire. Doug is on his cell phone immediately calling in a report.)
Dawson: What the........?
Pacey: Hit and run, I guess. Doug will have someone on it soon. But why puncture a tire?
Doug: I’ve called it in. There’s a couple of cars in the immediate area. Too bad we don’t know what kind of car. Maybe we can tell by paint marks, but it’s pretty dark. (Doug walks toward the back of the wrecked vehicle and stops.) Dawson!! Call 911.
Pacey: What is it, Doug?
Doug: It’s Dennis, Pace. He’s here. Get the flashlight out of my car.
Jack: What is it, Doug? Is he okay?
Doug: No, I don’t think so. It looks like his throat is cut.
Pace: Here’s the flashlight. What is it?
Doug: You guys need to back away. I think we have a crime scene here. Where’s Mindy?
Jack: Oh my gosh. Where IS Mindy?
Pacey: What the hell is going on here. MINDY!!
(Pacey and Jack start walking the edges of the property looking for Mindy and find traces of blood near the front of the wrecked vehicle.)
Jack: Doug, there’s blood here too. Oh my god, poor Mindy.
Doug: Okay, guys. I know you want to help but...........
Pacey: Doug, I’ve got to get this car out of the way. I’ve got to look for her.
( on the porch Joey and the ladies are all standing, trying to see what’s happening)
Joey: What’s going on, guys? Was it an accident?
Doug: Joey, please get these guys back up there. They can tell you all about it. Pace! Please, go back to the house. We’ll find her.
Dawson: Come on, Pace. We better do as he says.
(They reach the porch and they’re quickly surrounded by the questioning ladies.)
Pacey: There’s some kind of an accident. The wrecked car is blocking the drive. Dawson’s car has a tire punctured and apparently Doug found the Harper kid lying behind the car. Mindy’s nowhere to be found.
Joey: Where is she, Pacey?
Jack: We don’t know......there’s blood out by the front of the car though and did you guys see Dennis?
Dawson: Yeah, I did.
Pacey: I didn’t.What about him?
Jack: It looked like his throat was slit.
Joey: (as all the ladies gasp and start to murmur amongst themselves) Oh my God, Pace. You don’t think it’s her........
Dawson: There’s no way to know, Jo.
Pacey: I’ve got to get out of here. I’ve got to look for her.
Jack: Doug’s right, Pacey. Everything out there is a crime scene. If we mess it up we may mess up the very thing that will help us find her. And it’s been too long already. You don’t even know what kind of car you’re looking for.
Joey: They’re right Pacey. Come here, honey. (She takes him in her arms and hugs him) She’s going to be okay. I know she will.
Pacey: Where’s the police? What’s taking them so long?
Grams: Ladies, why don’t we go back inside. It’s chilly and there’s nothing we can really do.
Joey: I’m going to stay.
(Grams, Andie and Gretchen re-enter the house. A solitary police car arrives without lights or sirens. Doug can be seen speaking to the officer through the window of his car. He drives away.)
Pacey: What is he doing? What’s with our local police force?
Dawson: Now calm down, Pace. I’m sure it’s not as bad as it seems.
Pacey: (turning on Dawson) Mindy’s been kidnapped, maybe killed and you say it’s not as bad as it seems?
Joey: Pacey! Calm down. You’re not making things any better.
Pacey: I just feel so impotent.
Jack: I hear a siren...............sounds like it’s coming this way. Let’s go back out there. Just stay where we’ve already been and away from the cars.
(They begin to walk back out, this time Joey accompanies them.)
Pacey: Doug, what the hell’s going on? Where is everybody?
Doug: Relax, Pacey. We’ll find her.
Jack: Doug, is he..........?
Doug: Yeah, he’s dead.
Joey: (gasps) Oh..............(she turns and buries her face in Pacey’s chest.)
Dawson: The sirens are closer. They can’t be more than a few blocks.
Doug: That’s the ambulance. The sirens are different.
Pacey: Well, I guess he might as well turn the sirens off. I think I have the Harper’s phone number in my cell phone. I better call his family.
Doug: I’d wait, Pacey. The family doesn’t need to see him like this. We’ll call them after they take him.
Pacey: What could this be about, Doug? I’d lay odds this kid wasn’t into drugs.
Dawson: Maybe nothing Pacey. Just random.
Jack: I doubt it. The slashed tire, the accident......it looks planned to me.
Dawson: I’m like Pacey, then. Who in Capeside could do something like this?
(The sirens shriek louder and the hear squealing tires and see flashing lights as the ambulance turns the corner in the next block. It roars down the neighborhood at a quick but safe pace and slams to a stop in front of the house. The driver pulls forward in the street as the technicians jump out and backs in with the rear doors facing the driveway. Doug greets the EMT team as the four friends stand by and watch)
Pacey: I’m not without sympathy, but this does Mindy no good.
Joey: Stop it, Pace. You have to believe she’s going to be okay.
(As the EMT techs and Doug approach the body, the driver exits the driver’s door and opens the rear doors. A shout rings out from inside the vehicle.......... TRICK OR TREAT!!! Doug, Dawson, and Jack turn to Pacey and Joey and repeat, Trick or treat.)
Pacey: What the hell? What are you guys doing?
Joey: This isn’t funny. That poor boy...............(she stops as she sees Dennis Harper sit up and grin at them from his death bed.)
Pacey: You didn’t.( Just then from the Ambulance..........)
Audrey: How RUDE? Isn’t anyone going to say Hello?
Joey: Audrey? You guys, this is SO not funny.
Jack:(cracking up laughing) That was priceless.
(Audrey and Randy, along with Mindy exit the ambulance)
Mindy: You guys, I had NOTHING to do with this. They really did grab me off the streets and I had no idea who these people were until Audrey told me what they were doing.
Joey: Dawson, you did this, didn’t you. All the cars, and ambulances and blood..........oh, I hate you(shaking her head and trying not to smile.)
Pacey: (leaning back on the car’s fender) I’ve never been more scared in my life. (He walks toward Audrey..........) Are we even now? (Grinning as Audrey jumps to him and hugs him)
Audrey: Pacey, this is Randy. I like to call him the Anti-Pacey.(smiles)
Pacey: Ah, yes. So I've heard. (They shake hands) We should compare notes, my friend.
Joey: Well, at least something good is going to come of this. I can’t believe you guys. Jack, how could you?
Jack: Grams made us promise no Halloween inside the house (the tricksters all break into laughter. As we cut away we see Gretchen and Andie laughing. Grams simply shakes her head and goes in the house.) |
