(Author’s note: I will be returning to the Jen/Dawson story line. However, it was always my intention to write about Joey and Pacey) Josephine Potter walked down the sidewalk of the city street headed to the dock where the True Love was at. It was night time. It was a beautiful clear night and the moon was out. She smiled at the beautiful night and the fact that the town they were in reminded her of Capeside. In this great adventure, it was nice to have a semi-home feeling. She stopped at a flower shop and picked up a Carolina Jasmine. She paid with cash. Earlier, she had just finished a shift a local restaurant. She had taken the job for two days so that she and Pacey (who was working on a fishing boat) could make some money to buy supplies to continue their adventure. She had made some excellent tips. Enough that she could buy a pizza to eat tonight which would be a welcome change from the fish that she and Pacey were catching and eating. Not that there was anything wrong with fish, it was a cheap way to eat but she wanted a change for tonight. She saw a pizza place near the dock and placed an order. She then went to the boat and set the plant down and went back to wait for the pizza. She came back to the boat and set the pizza down. She moved towards the plant and watered it. She smiled as she looked at the plant. It was going to be a gift for Bessie. Pacey and Joey had been getting gifts for their friends from this trip. They wanted their friends to have a piece of the adventure. Joey looked towards the corner where the box she had been keeping her gifts was. She walked over and looked inside. She smiled as she saw the gifts wrapped up in the box. As she looked at each one, she knew who it was for and she tried to imagine the expression on their faces when she would get back to Capeside and give them away. She saw the gifts for Andie, Jen, Jack, Alexander, and Bodie. The last one she saw was a rectangular shape. It was also thick, wrapped in a map. It was a brick from Hemmingway’s home in the Florida Keys. It was Joey’s gift for Dawson.

Joey continued to look at Dawson’s gift. While she could imagine what other people’s reactions might be, she could not imagine Dawson’s. It bothered her. And the more she thought about it, the more things bothered her. The whole last couple of months before school let out bothered her. Having to deal with Dawson and Pacey, watching their friendship get destroyed, hearing Dawson declare that there was no friendship any more between him and Joey and the prom that was a nightmare she’d rather forget. It also bothered her that she and Pacey didn’t have the guts to tell Dawson. Instead, Dawson found out from Jen, who inadvertently hold him. It wasn’t her fault though, she thought he already knew. Why couldn’t she just find the courage to tell him the truth in the first place? Granted, it wasn’t the easiest thing in the world for her to do, tell Dawson that she fell for his best friend, but it had to be done and she had to be the one to do. There of course, was the possibility that it wouldn’t have mattered anyways. She could have come to Dawson before, he found out from Jen, told him the truth and things would still be same that nothing would have changed. That was of course wishful thinking. The fact remained that Dawson didn’t find out for her or Pacey, he found out from Jen. Because of what went down she had no idea about the status of her and Dawson. They were friends for a very long time and she still wanted to be his friend. But she left not knowing if that would happen. However, she wasn’t sorry that she left either. She wanted to be with Pacey. She was happy about the decision that she had made. They were having the time of their lives this summer. This was something that she would remember for years to come. She was happy to be here and happy to be with Pacey. She just wished it hadn’t cost so much to get here and she was determined to try and get back what she had lost. She wanted to have Dawson in her life. She just had no idea what she was going to do or say to him. She made her way to the deck of the boat and was now sitting with the pizza. She was eating and thinking of what lie ahead. It wouldn’t be long before they were back in Capeside and she would have to find a way to mend things with Dawson.

Pacey Witter walked out of a building near the docks of the town that he and Joey were docked at. He took a second to admire the great view of the water and the moonlight reflecting off of it. He made sure that his wallet was secure in his pocket and walked toward the boat docks . He had just finished the second of two days working at a fishing company. He and Joey both worked to gain some money for supplies and gifts during their summer together. Pacey couldn’t be happier. He was out sailing the open water, he was having a great time and the best part is that Joey was with him. She almost wasn’t. She almost stayed behind in Capeside and he would have been out on the water alone. He was much happier that he wasn’t. He turned the corner and saw his boat, True Love and he saw Joey sitting on the deck. He picked up his stepped and raced to the boat. He came up behind Joey, and put his arms around her and kissed the side of her neck. “Hey potter,” he said with a smile. She jumped slightly startled by him but she quickly relaxed back into his arms. “You just love doing that don’t you?” she asked after a gasp. “I don’t hear any complaints.” He replied with a smile “I’ll lodge a formal protest in the morning,” She said sarcastically. “Promises, promises,” He said letting her go as he saw the pizza box. He picked up a piece and started eating. “What’s this?” “Pace, I think you should be able to recognize pizza by now,” “I know what it is-” “Then why’d you ask?” She interrupted with a smirk. “That’s not what I meant. What’s it doing here?” He said as he took another bite of pizza. “You’re demonstrating what it’s doing here quite nicely,” She smirked again. Pacey was about to offer a retort of something but Joey spoke before that. “Pace, I needed a break from all the fish and since I had a good night with tips, I figured we could have something other than fish.” He finished his pizza. “Good idea Jo, although it’ll be back to fish tomorrow when we take off.” “Yes I know,” She said sat up as Pacey wrapped his arms around her again. “So, you’ve have time on the boat before I got here, what were you thinking about?” He asked playfully. Joey knew exactly what she was thinking about but given the ways things ended, she thought it best not to bring it up. “Nothing.” She said quickly. Pacey continued to playful prod. “Aw come on. You Josephine Potter, the introspective dreamer have a beautiful boat on a beautiful night with the moon on the water and stars out in force,” he said while motioning to the sky. “And you are thinking of nothing??? Uh-uh, don’t buy it.” He laughed. She shifted uncomfortably in his arms. Her movement was not lost on Pacey. “There are moments when I just like to clear head,” She said a hint of nervous in her voice. Why couldn’t he just let this drop? She thought to herself. Pacey’s demeanor changed a bit. “Jo, come on. I was just playing to start now it seems as if you are hiding something from me. Come on, tell me. We’ve had quite a few intimate talks over the summer and now you are keeping secrets.” She was now extremely uncomfortable and she needed to move, she moved to get out of his arms. He let her go and she stood up and now was facing him. He saw her face and knew that this was bothering her and now he wanted to know why it was bothering her and why she felt a need to keep it a secret. He wanted to know the cause of this because it was making her unhappy and he didn’t want to see that. “You really want to know?” She asked timidly. “Yes, I want to know. This started as a joke and now you are completely bothered by it. I want you to not be bothered. I want to know so we can get through this.” He said She shook her head. “I don’t think you want to know about this.” She said quietly. “Try me,” he said, wanting them to get past something that to him seemed silly. She took a deep breath before answering. “Dawson,’ she said, her voice sounding small. “I was thinking about Dawson.”
