| I never saw Joey initiating the kiss, but like Slyn, I think she definitely started the moment.
A lot of people hate Coda for a plethora of reasons, but I think it has to be stated that, if nothing else, it was about 59 minutes of good Dawson development. Here's a guy who's still clinging to a romanticized past, and who is facing a big challenge, and just tons of other stuff...and he doesn't want to crumble. It's a determined Dawson, ready to move on.
And then Joey crumbles. I understand her wanting him to stay, don't get me wrong, but she really kind of halted Dawson. And then they kissed. And while I always enjoy them kissing, I think this ended up being the moment the show just completely lost itself. And there is, of course, the argument about who wanted a romantic relationship, Dawson or Joey, but regardless of who actually wanted the romance (if you can call it that in season five), it's Joey's fault that it happened.
What was Dawson supposed to think when Joey asked him to stay? You could say, "Well, she just broke up with Pacey after a long relationship, he should have known she didn't want anything more." But Joey wanted Dawson for fifteen years, and although there relationship wasn't as intense as hers with Pacey, you can't ignore the fact that she went right from Dawson to Jack. She's flaky as hell, so Dawson could have easily been confused.
Dawson and Pacey were very flawed, Dawson moreso than Pacey probably, but I think Coda, particularly this kiss, shows that Joey stirred the pot and caused a lot more problems than she should have. |

| I agree with a lot of that DD, but joey is not flaky... Clinging to dawson after pacey broke her heart was not her being flaky, it was her needing dawson and all that he had been to and meant to her for most of her life... and for whatever reasons that we will never agree on she blurred the line of friend/lover again... a recurring D/J theme. And going from dawson to jack was not flaky either... she was being suffocated by dawson and jack was new and different and helped her to breathe fresh air.
I'm trying to think of a better word for it... flaky just doesn't cut it... in the one instance she was hurt and needy... for support, comfort, familiarity... in the other she was setting out on finding herself and jack was along for the beginning of the journey... a companion of sorts for a while, who became a great friend. |

| I didn't mean that Joey was flaky in Coda because I don't think she was. But I do think she had a history of being flaky. I can understand you not wanting to use the word, but I've become more bitter about Joey as I watch the show, so I think it works for me, especially once I used thesaurus.com.
Anyway, as I said, I don't think she was in Coda, but I think that Dawson wouldn't have been able to clearly read what she wanted since she had been so indecisive in the past. |

| This is what you mean?
Main Entry: absurd
Part of Speech: adjective
Definition: ridiculous
Synonyms: cool, crazy, daffy, dippy, dizzy, flaky, fool, fool around, foolish, for grins, freaked out, freaky, gagged up, goofy, idiotic, illogical, inane, incongruous, irrational nonsensical, jokey, joshing, kooky, laughable, loony, ludicrous, monkey, nutty, preposterous, sappy, screwy, senseless, shtick, silly, stupid, tomfool, unreasonable, wacky
She may have had instances of flakiness... I'm only allowing that because I'm sure you have examples ready in hand... but these synonyms and the definition allow that she didn't have reasons for the things she did... but she always had a reason, albeit sometimes an emotional one versus logical... but a reason nonetheless, that certainly wasn't stupid, wacky, or loony.... |

I totally agree. Coda was really good for Dawson. I just hate how in season 5, they had him seeming like he was giving up his dreams for a girl. I found that out of character for him, especially after all he had been through with the triangle and Mr. Brooks. |
