| I don't know that the show would have ended midseason, but I could have seen it ending after season four because I do think the viewers would have been really frustrated. Hard to judge that, really.
Anyway, the show would have hit a wall and would have been unable to scrape itself off much sooner than it did (mid season five...okay, so it scraped itself off at the very end of season six...by then, the series didn't need to revitalize itself, though, it just needed to end).
If Joey stays in Capeside, then she's miserable, and she's a loser for staying and not following her heart. Dawson looks even worse than he did at the end of season three for allowing her to stay. Pacey sails off and he looks like a loser for running away. Joey is possibly redeemable. Dawson and Pacey aren't. Dawson has gone one step too far, and Pacey has completely failed to capitalize. It perpetuates the loser aura.
So where's the drama? Nowhere. It's a show about misery and there's no way to correctly fix the characters without overcompensating and making everyone look foolish. |
