| So is the question referring to if Jack was not gay at all? Or if he hadn't come out ever? |

| I think that Jack and Jen had a realtionship of a different kind. They did not have a romantic relationship, but rather one that led them to being the best they could be. Jack was the "Girlfriend" that Jen never had. Jen had always scared off other women that could have helped her figure things out, by being the Slut (lack of a better word), but Jack was that person she could always talk to, and help her figure things out. Where, Jen was that strong person, pushing Jack to do things he normally wouldn't do. She was his pushing force. IF not for her, would he have ever gone off to explore his relationships with other me? So I think they both gave each other the things that they were missing. |

| Before I begin, I need to put it out there that I am a big Jack/Jen shipper. A Winter's Tale was like a fantasy come true for me.
OK..so if Jack were never gay AND they still were friends first in season 2 AND they spent that whole summer together at Grams PLATONICALLY....then I can see them ending up together.
Here is why in three episodic reasons
...SEX SHE WROTE...Jack was able to confide something very personal to Jen. That was the beginning right there, it is what started their friendship and their trust.
....KISS KISS BANG BANG...when Jack filled out Jen's college applications. He read her diary and found she "still" had romantic/lusty thoughts about him.(yep he knew about the lust before) This proves Jen had entertained thoughts about Jack being more than a friend.
....A WINTER'S TALE....Jack loves Jen...he said it. And it was strong and all encompassing. If he were straight I think he would have felt the same way.
Other evidence can be found in...
Heatwave - the laying in the grass together under the stars...they were so close and comfortable.
You had me at goodbye -
Much of season 5 (when they were broken up. LOL)
And in the finale - when Jack says you belong to me, you're my soulmate.
I do believe Jack and Jen could have worked as a couple. They shared mutual respect and understanding.
We could argue that if Jack were straight he would have been the egotistical football guy, but Jen was the head cheerleader, so it still would have worked out.
And he was less than stellar boyfriend material to all the men in his life, save Doug. But I would say that he was just searching to find someone he loved as much as Jen. He wanted to be fulfilled as completely in his romantic life as he was with her. |

| Slyn, I don't know if it's more embarrassing for you to write all that out having obviously spent SO much time considering it and all it's ramfications, or for me to admit that I agree with all of it.
While it's useless to consider Jack as a straight man, I don't think there's any doubt he would still be the same man. I don't think you have to worry about Jack becoming the stereotypical jock. He is who he is.
I think Jen and Jack, if any in the show fit the real meaning of soulmate, are the one's who best typify it. It's about a connection that goes beyond sex and romance. I actually believe you could make a strong case that there was romance between Jack and Jen. There simply wasn't a physical manifestation of their love due to basic differences in their make up. Jack loved Jen. Jen loved Jack. As a gay man with a straight wife they would have destroyed themselves. As a straight man with a straight wife, they would have been terrific. Jen loved and wanted Jack. Jack loved and wanted to want Jen. Why would it be any different? |
