Real life couple Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams are working together again. The pair met and fell in love on the set of Brokeback Mountain, and now they’ll continue their off screen romance working on the set of Todd Haynes’ Bob Dylan biopic I’m Not There.
Heath steps in to replace the departed Colin Farrell as Bob Dylan, but he’s not the only guy playing him. Dylan will be played by many different actors throughout the course of the movie, depending on which stage of his life or mood is being portrayed. According to Production Weekly, the others playing him along with Heath will be Christian Bale, Richard Gere, Ben Wishaw, and Cate Blanchett. Yep, you read that right. Bob Dylan will be played by a woman! Cate Blanchett is a brilliant actress, but is she that good?
There’s still one Dylan left to be cast, but with the addition of Heath’s other half Michelle, the rest of the non-Dylan cast is complete. There’s no word on who Michelle Williams will play in the movie, but she joins a supporting cast that already includes Julianne Moore and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
I’m Not There is shaping up to be one of the strangest projects currently in development. Is it a movie with a gimmick, or a pretentious Indie movie in the mold of the failed, actor shifting Todd Solondz movie Palindromes? Haynes’ track record, which includes the fantastic, thought provoking film Far From Heaven (for which Dennis Quaid should have won an Oscar), should be enough to earn it at least a little credibility, in spite of the rather bizarre premise.
I’m Not Here starts shooting this July in Montreal, so expect word on the casting of the movie’s final Dylan soon. |
