If I were Michelle Williams, I'd be pretty stoked. I mean, first she's got a little Matilda to coo over. And her movie Brokeback Mountain just won Best Dramatic Picture at the Golden Globes. Oh, did I mention that she's engaged to Heath Ledger?
I know. But happiness ain't the same thing for all people, see. Some couples live for this schmoozing scene. (More on Steve Carell and his witty pretty wife, Nancy Walls, latuh.) Particularly loved Seal sitting by while his gorgeous wife, Heidi Klum, in dog-collar couture, let a dude-dancer type do a lap dance on her privates area. Warner/InStyle soiree. Sweet! But others want no freakin' part of the raunchier side o' revelry.
Universal NBC after-party. Cast of The Office scattered about like extras in a glitzy movie. Flashbulbs a-popping. Rachel Weisz and her big new trophy holding court in the primo real estate--yes, I'm talking corner couch. Goddess in white Keira Knightley keeping a brave, happy face at the same sofa and declaring, "Oh, I don't think I should have won!" Don't you love those modest Brits?
So, you get my drift. It's a very social scene. And then Heath and Michelle waltz in and are très ballyhooed. Oh, if you could have seen Anne Hathaway make a beeline for those two! And Michelle, for the fashionista record, looks fantastic--not scary skinny, not Britney bloated, just aglow. Anyway, some of us tried to talk with the Brokeback babe, but the gal coudn't get through a sentence without saying the H-word. One gal, for ince, complimented her dress.
"Heath likes it," she purred. "That's all that matters."
Then a reporter chick attempted to talk about Michelle's role in Brokeback. "Oh we're really all talked out," she said. "I'm just here to celebrate with Heath."
Now, I've been to loads of these parties, but I hafta tell you, Michelle is the most love-struck actress I've ever seen. She couldn't even keep her hands off him for 30 seconds. Of course, the feeling appeared very mutual. And I'm happy they have each other. You know why?
He seemed, in a word, bummed that he didn't win. Like, when I congratulated the two on having carried a movie that won one of the top film honors of the night, they looked at me like I was in jeans and a tee. |
